Why bamboo?
Two words: Sustainability and Sound. Bamboo is the fastest-growing woody plant in the world. Nearly one-third of a crop of bamboo will grow back fully within one year of being harvested, making it an excellent alternative to slow-growing hardwoods. "The strength and hardness of bamboo gives it excellent acoustical properties, making it an ideal material for speakers." says Audioengine co-founder David Evans. And the rich color of this Russian bamboo doesn’t come from a paint or stain, but through a specialized heating process that naturally carbonizes the sugar compounds in the bamboo, resulting in a deep caramel color that makes these speakers look as good as they sound.
Getting greener
Using bamboo isn’t the only way Audioengine is working to reduce their impact on the environment. All Audioengine speakers meet the EU’s lead-free directives and conform to ENERGY STAR requirements. NASHVILLE, TN - October 20, 2007 - Audioengine proudly announces the release of the Audioengine 2 Premium Desktop Multimedia Speaker system. “The Audioengine 2 is a step forward in multimedia speaker design and an affordable upgrade for your computer audio” says Brady Bargenquast, co-founder. “Just as with the Audioengine 5 powered bookshelf speakers introduced last year, we wanted to bring the same quality and performance not seen in speakers of this price range”.
“When customers hear the Audioengine 5, their first reaction is usually “WOW!”. We wanted the same experience with the Audioengine 2”, says Dave Evans, co-founder. “It took us quite a few months to do this product, but we think we’ve got it”.
Creating powered multimedia speakers to follow the Audioengine 5 was a challenge, but Audioengine have managed to duplicate the signature sound and quality of the Audioengine 5 in a smaller package perfectly suited for your desktop and smaller rooms, such as an office or bedroom. The Audioengine 2’s were first shown in May at the Home Entertainment 2007 Show in New York, the same show in which the 5’s were awarded Home Theater’s 2007 Rave Award for Best Entry-Level Speaker.

In a Class of Their Own
Unlike most multimedia speakers, the Audioengine 2 cabinets are constructed of wood (18mm thick MDF), rather than plastic. The woofer cones, of high-quality Kevlar with custom voice coils and magnets, produce surprisingly deep, smooth bass and mid-range. The tweeters, silk-dome and neodymium fluid stabilized (the same tweeters used in the Audioengine 5’zs), provide sweet highs. The amplifier is a class AB linear design, for true sound reproduction.
The Audioengine 2’s have 1/8” mini-jack and RCA inputs as well as a volume control on the rear panel. They’re uniquely suited for desktop computer use, but are also perfect for the bedroom or kitchen.

Built-in iPod Charging
