SAN FRANCISCO, CA - March 28, 2008 - Audioengine puts an eco-friendly spin on its original Audioengine 5 active speaker system with the release of the A5N Bamboo. The new Audioengine 5N includes all of the simple but useful features and same signature sound of the award-winning A5, now wrapped in rock-solid and beautifully hand-finished bamboo cabinets.
Two words: Sustainability and Sound. Bamboo is the fastest-growing woody plant in the world. Nearly one-third of a crop of bamboo will grow back fully within one year of being harvested, making it an excellent alternative to slow-growing hardwoods. "The strength and hardness of bamboo gives it excellent acoustical properties, making it an ideal material for speakers." says Audioengine co-founder David Evans. And the rich color of this Russian bamboo doesn’t come from a paint or stain, but through a specialized heating process that naturally carbonizes the sugar compounds in the bamboo, resulting in a deep caramel color that makes these speakers look as good as they sound.
Using bamboo isn’t the only way Audioengine is working to reduce their impact on the environment. All Audioengine speakers meet the EU’s lead-free directives and conform to ENERGY STAR requirements. In addition to being lead-free and consuming less power when not playing music, Audioengine uses environmentally-friendly materials and adhesives during the manufacturing process. Packaging is also a key area where Audioengine can make a difference. "We try to keep a minimalist approach to product design so it's natural for us to look at product packaging in the same way." said Brady Bargenquast, Audioengine co-founder. "And a nice result is that we lower the amount of packing materials our customers eventually have to dispose of, while still providing excellent shipping protection."
The A5N still offers the same award-winning sound and simple but useful features that the original Audioengine 5 system is known for. 5" Kevlar woofers for powerful bass, 20mm silk dome tweeters for smooth highs, built-in internal power amplifiers, and a top Combo Port for iPod charging as well as an AC power jack built directly into the rear panel all allow the Audioengine 5N to integrate perfectly in your living room, bedroom or desktop. The new handcrafted, sustainable bamboo cabinets make the Audioengine 5N a true work of art.
A5N Eco-friendly features:
- Made from renewable and sustainable solid bamboo - no veneers
- No stains or paint used - naturally "carbonized" finish sealed with hand-rubbed water-based satin polyurethane
Other green facts and features:
- Audioengine products are now 100% lead-free and meet the EU's RoHS initiative

NASHVILLE, TN - October 20, 2007 - Audioengine proudly announces the release of the Audioengine 2 Premium Desktop Multimedia Speaker system. “The Audioengine 2 is a step forward in multimedia speaker design and an affordable upgrade for your computer audio” says Brady Bargenquast, co-founder. “Just as with the Audioengine 5 powered bookshelf speakers introduced last year, we wanted to bring the same quality and performance not seen in speakers of this price range”.
“When customers hear the Audioengine 5, their first reaction is usually “WOW!”. We wanted the same experience with the Audioengine 2”, says Dave Evans, co-founder. “It took us quite a few months to do this product, but we think we’ve got it”.
Creating powered multimedia speakers to follow the Audioengine 5 was a challenge, but Audioengine have managed to duplicate the signature sound and quality of the Audioengine 5 in a smaller package perfectly suited for your desktop and smaller rooms, such as an office or bedroom. The Audioengine 2 is a great introduction to high-quality audio and an excellent powered speaker for your computer or iPod.
The Audioengine 2’s were first shown in May at the Home Entertainment 2007 Show in New York, the same show in which the 5’s were awarded Home Theater’s 2007 Rave Award for Best Entry-Level Speaker.
Brett Bargenquast, US Sales Manager, comments on the show responses: “Folks were just stunned with the sound. One guy even went so far as to look under the table, thinking we were hiding a subwoofer. They just couldn’t believe this much sound was coming from these small speakers”.
In a Class of Their Own
Unlike most multimedia speakers, the Audioengine 2 cabinets are constructed of wood (18mm thick MDF), rather than plastic. The woofer cones, of high-quality Kevlar with custom voice coils and magnets, produce surprisingly deep, smooth bass and mid-range. The tweeters, silk-dome and neodymium fluid stabilized (the same tweeters used in the Audioengine 5’zs), provide sweet highs. The amplifier is a class AB linear design, for true sound reproduction.
The Audioengine 2’s have 1/8” mini-jack and RCA inputs as well as a volume control on the rear panel. They’re uniquely suited for desktop computer use, but are also perfect for the bedroom or kitchen.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Feb 20, 2006 - Audioengine introduces its first consumer speaker system designed specifically for iPods and other portable audio players. The Audioengine 5 delivers astonishing audiophile-quality sound and includes features and construction at a price that sets a new standard for powered speakers.
Built-in iPod Charging
Designed for optimal ease of setup and versatility, the Audioengine 5 has a built-in top Combo Port for iPod charging while listening to your music or watching movies. Plug your iPod Universal Dock or iPod directly into the Audioengine 5 Combo Port and you're ready to rock (or roll). The Combo Port is compatible with both the nano and video iPod as well as all other Click Wheel iPods.
Airport Express Power
With an AC power jack built directly into the rear panel, the Audioengine 5 provides the ability to stream music from your laptop directly to the speakers through Apple's Airport Express. "We wanted to add as many useful connections as possible," says David Evans, Audioengine CEO. "And having a power jack on the rear panel makes perfect sense." The rear panel AC outlet is also ideal for providing power to other portable and standard A/V equipment. A 2nd auxiliary mini-jack is located nearby for audio input from the Airport Express or other products.
Huge Sound, Small Size
Audioengine 5 is a full-size speaker system in a bookshelf-sized package. Internal power amps eliminate the need to connect the Audioengine 5 to a bulky stereo receiver or external power amp. “Consumers now have more options to enjoy a high-quality entertainment setup without an oversized receiver having to be the center of their system," says Brady Bargenquast, President of Audioengine. With built-in subwoofer ports, the Audioengine 5 adds incredible low-end bass without the need for an external subwoofer. Audioengine speakers can also be connected to the variable audio output on TVs to be easily controlled by existing remote controls.
Brawn, Brains, and Beauty
5” Kevlar woofers for powerful bass, 20mm silk dome tweeters for smooth highs, built-in power amplifiers, truly useful connections, and a clean industrial design all allow the Audioengine 5 to integrate perfectly in your living room, bedroom, or on your desktop. Custom-designed and handcrafted wood cabinets with high-gloss professional piano finish make the Audioengine 5 a true work of art.
